Mad Dogs and Englishmen (go out in the noon day sun.)

It was definitely too hot today to think of any kind of gardening, but Penny (that's her with her nose in the nicotania) and I went for a short walk at lunch time.  The neighborhood, usually filled with activity, was quite empty and there was a that heavy stillness that settles over things on sultry mid-summer days.  The only real activity we found was a host of bumble bees in the Bee Balm.  There were so many of them, they were bumping into each other.  Clearly this was nectar heaven.

We returned home to find a squirrel contemplating the sunflower seed bird feeder.  I really don't mind the squirrels helping themselves to seed, but they are such little pigs, they can empty a feeder in a day, and frankly, the good stuff is expensive.  But today, I didn't have to worry.  Unlike Penny and me, this fellow knew what to do in the heat.  Eat lightly and take it easy.

(And ignore that silly woman with the camera.)
